Will I Feel Anything During My Oral Surgery

Posted on 5/15/2024 by Dental Haven
Woman speaking with dentist at Dental Haven in Appleton, WIWisdom teeth removal and jaw surgery are only two examples of the many treatments that fall under the umbrella of oral surgery. Regarding these more delicate therapies, we are aware of the hesitation that most patients experience. At our clinic, we understand the importance of providing our patients with safe in-house sedation options for the most comfort possible during their procedures.

To ensure that our patients do not experience any discomfort during their surgical consultation, we provide them with three different techniques for sedation. These include nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and oral conscious sedation.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide, sometimes known as laughing gas, is now the gentlest method for keeping our patients calm and relaxed. During the visit, it is administered to alleviate worry and anxiety and generate a general sense of calmness.

IV Sedation

The patient receives an injection that contains a moderate amount of sedative into the bloodstream. This type of sedation is known as intravenous (IV) sedation. Due to this, the patient experiences a sense of total relaxation, almost as if they had been sleeping through the appointment. Since the sedation takes time to wear off, some tiredness will continue after the visit.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is a drug that is administered orally to achieve the desired effects of numbing their senses and helping them relax. As a result of the fact that it is typically taken before arriving at the office, it is essential to have someone who can drive you to and from the appointment. It will take a few hours for the benefits to take effect, so the patient will feel sleepy afterward.
